Helsinki Study & Work Opportunities

One possibility would be if you are a student in Ukrainian university/conservatory, to become a student at University of Helsinki.

University of Helsinki grants the right to complete non-degree studies to persons who have arrived in Finland and whose degree studies have been suspended at the Ukrainian higher education institution due to war.

The right of completion may be granted to courses or study modules on the basis of a free-form application. The application must indicate the language skills of the applicant, the discipline and the extent of studies completed in the past, and other grounds for the application. A copy of the passport or similar document shall be attached to the application.

Applications will be processed until the end of 2022 without application deadlines. Rights of completion will be granted until 31.7.2023 and no fees will be charged for non-degree studies.

Ukrainian citizens will not be charged for studies at Open University until autumn 2023.
This is the page that gives the basic information on the decision of the university to receive students from Ukrainian universities: https://www.helsinki.fi/en/news/war-ukraine

The main teaching languages in University of Helsinki are Finnish and Swedish, but we have teaching in English language in Master’s programs, see more info here: https://www.helsinki.fi/en/admissions-and-education/apply-bachelors-and-masters-programmes/apply-international-masters-programmes/explore-our-international-masters-programmes

I would especially recommend the Master's programme in Changing Education. Minna Huotilainen is the director of that programme and you could join us in studying music education in Helsinki. If you want to study education, please email directly.

Another possibility is doctoral studies. If you have Master's degree, you could start working on a doctoral thesis on the topic of music either at University of Helsinki or at Sibelius Academy.

One possibility is to work as a research assistant in a questionnaire study where we try to collect data from people about how they see the value of music in their lives. If you have any background on questionnaire studies and are interested in doing research, pls contact me directly via email.

Ukrainians and Europeans don’t need a visa to come to Finland. When you enter Finland, you will be provided with basic housing, modest food, etc.

While finding work as musicians in Finland, you can advance your studies.
