Berlin Scholarship Deadline 26.06!!!

Scholarships for music teachers/students from Ukraine, the Russian Federation and Belarus at Barenboim-Said Akademie (Berlin)
BSA was chosen by the Federal Commissioner for Arts and Culture (BKM) as one of the institutions that can award stipends for artists who had to flee their homes or are unable to pursue their artistic education due to the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

This expressly includes not only Ukrainians, but also citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus forced out by their governments. I was given the go-ahead this morning; since the program is supposed to start on July 1, this is time critical.

We received funding for a total of eight residency spaces between July 1 and December 31:

  • Two positions for professors/teachers – we can hire two educators/musicians at a salary of roughly EUR 3.200/month for this period. Note that successful applicants will need to have a German work permit (not a problem for Ukrainians who are fully eligible to work here, could be more difficult for citizens of Russia and Belarus). We are trying to extend our housing capacity with Berlinovo; if they can make more apartments available, these positions would be given the single use of an apartment for themselves and family, if applicable. Otherwise, we may have to pay a rent subsidy in cash and try to help find accommodation. There would be an expectation that these teachers work with the students in the program.

  • Six positions for students/prospective students – These would receive similar stipends to our students for the duration – cash grant of BAFöG maximum of EUR 861/month plus housing if we can provide it or a housing subsidy should that not be possible short-term, plus use of BSA facilities, German and/or English classes etc. Many faculty members have already expressed their willingness to help out with assessments, lessons and advice – thank you very much indeed!
As you know, we already have a few Ukrainian students using Akademie spaces who we will automatically add to the applicant list. But there are a few spots available at this point.

To be considered, applicants should send an email by Sunday, June 26 to ukraine.residency@barenboimsaid.de including name, date of birth, nationality, home address and address in Germany (if applicable), instrument and a brief motivation for inclusion in the program (informal, a few lines are sufficient). Should they have a CV handy, that is helpful but not necessary.
Applications will be reviewed by the Rector, Dean and Chancellor; we will inform successful candidates early next week."
